In summer, Engelberg is quieter than in winter. Many people come here for a day, to take the cable car to Titlis. We got off on the intermediate station instead. At the slightly more low-key, but still easy accessible, Trübsee.



A flat path runs all the way around the lake, used by walkers and pushchairs. It’s also possible to bring bikes, and head for the flowtrails from here. Designated grills are set up along the route, with firewood provided. allows for much better meals than the expensive cafés at the cable car stations.
In the water, tadpoles gather. The lake itself is cold. Feet go in, not much more than that. Along the path, Curious cows appear, and Occasional there’s more to spot. a marmot briefly visible before disappearing again into the rocks. back at the station there are lots of activities. zip line, boats for rent and Playgrounds.

Brunni Offers A Similar Setup. Marble Run, Bare Foot Trail, Playground With Water Features, trampoline. We end up missing the last cable car down. But it Doesn’t matter. The afternoon Walk Back Down To Engelberg turns out to be a nice one. It Starts On Asphalt, Then Turns Into A Proper Path, Moving Through Forest And Quieter Stretches. Along The Way, There’s A Small Café. Iced Tea Is Enough Of A Reason To Stop.


the weather is warm but unstable when we visit. Rain threatens often, and at times the thunder is heavy. At night, it carries between the mountain walls. Longer mountain hikes are set aside.


Spending time in town proves worthwhile anyway. at Robinson playground Simple rafts are used for paddling out and back again. An older man explains that the playground is maintained by local retirees, working voluntarily to keep it going.
also here, Fire pits are set up nearby, with firewood available for a warm lunch. Visitors are encouraged to support the local association with a small donation.
In the village itself, there’s also a monastery with cheese production, a bike park, and a sports complex. Enough to fill the day without going far.


One day is spent lower down. The drive goes to Lucerne, and Ufschötti Park. football and swimwear is packed along. The park opens up by the lake with a sandy beach, large grass lawns, and trees that provide shade. A beach bar sits close to the water.
