The old railway lines in Alsace, France, offer an easy route, with long stretches. passing through vineyards, fields, small towns and occasional art installations.

our original plan was to follow the greenway and connect further north via la Bruche, all The way to strasbourg. then take the train back. On the map, the distance looked reasonable. In practice, we ended up going in the wrong direction. drifting into overgrown cornfields, construction areas, and stretches of narrow roads with traffic.
We`re lost, right?
Yes.
Instead of pushing on, the plan adjusts. Lunch and ice cream in the nearest village. No distance to make up for, no schedule to keep. Then finding our way back to the greenway. where there is no need to think about cars or directions.

The greenway is part of Alsace’s wider voie verte network, stretching for more than 2,500 kilometres across the region.
best enjoyed by taking the time to stop in the villages instead of focusing on how far the path goes. and keeping track of the map when leaving the Greenway.
